Minister for Labour B.N. Bache Gowda on Monday urged the media, both print and electronic, to guide society and not to indulge in sensationalising an issue or news.

Participating in a ceremony organised by the Press Club of Bangalore to present the annual “Man of the Year” and “Press Club Award for 2012” here, he said that the role of media is vital when society is facing many challenges and every media organisation is expected to be a guide to society in such circumstances.

The media should discharge its functions with responsibility, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok said that people can celebrate the New Year with their family or friends in their houses or other places instead of rushing towards places such as M.G. Road or Brigade Road here.

S.R. Hiremath, president of Samaj Parivartana Samudaya, was conferred with “Man of the Year Award for 2012” and veteran journalists Nagesh Hegde, Vijaya and A.C. Shivanna and senior photographer G.S. Narayanaswamy were conferred with “Press Club Award for 2012”.
