Hubli-Dharwad Mayor Pandurang Patil initiated a mass cleaning of wards, under ‘Operation Dirty’, here on Monday.

The Mayor symbolically inaugurated the mass cleaning at Akshay Park locality off Gokul Road here. Under the initiative, pourakarmikas attached to a zone would begin the cleaning en masse at a designated ward on specific days.

Dr. Patil said that under ‘Operation Dirty’, pourakarmikas, led by officials of the Health Department, would clean roads, drains and parks in designated wards, apart from clearing garbage dumped in open areas. He said that 120 pourakarmikas (both HDMC and private contractors put together) were working under a zonal office, and all of them would be deployed for the mass cleaning to be held for five days each month. The initiative was in addition to the regular cleaning and garbage disposal activities, he added.

He said the HDMC had already taken the initiative to make the city garbage container-free.
