Marithibbe Gowda of the Janata Dal (Secular) on Wednesday defied the directions of Legislative Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy not to speak, and trooped into the well of the House to lodge his protest.

At one stage, Mr. Shankaramurthy called out the marshals, but he didn’t send Mr. Gowda out. The member did not budge even to requests made by JD(S) Floor Leader M.C. Nanaiah and Leader of the House S.R. Patil.

An irate Mr. Nanaiah, who was asked to table his calling attention motion listed next, said he did not have the moral authority to table the motion when a member of his party was defying his request. He requested the chairman to take the motion on Thursday.
