PANAJI: The National Fishworkers’ Forum (NFF), federation of fishworkers’ organisations in the country, has opposed the Marine Regulation Movement Bill proposed by the Union Government to regulate fishing activity. Matanhy Saldanha, chairperson of NFF, told The Hindu here on Monday that he has told Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to act promptly and safeguard the interests of Goan fishermen by expressing his disapproval of the proposed regulation.

Goa, he said, should follow Tamil Nadu and Kerala which have raised their objections to protect the interests of their fishermen.

Mr. Saldanha, former Tourism Minister, said the States should take up the matter with the Union Government.
