Within days of the completion of the first underground tunnel stretch of the Namma Metro, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. has announced the completion of a second stretch from Majestic to Central College.

Margarita, the second tunnel boring machine (TBM), which had commenced boring operations from Majestic in mid-August, reached Central College at around 4.40 p.m. on Thursday.

This tunnel is 925 metres long and passes through the Kempegowda Road and Post Office Road area, a press release from BMRCL stated.

This is one of two tunnel boring machines, the other being Helen, which completed one major underground stretch from Majestic to the Vidhana Soudha on March 3.

The two TBMs will now have to be dismantled and assembled together and will continue burrowing towards the Vidhana Soudha, the release said.
