A huge march was taken out here on Saturday in protest against the violence in Assam and seeking action against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

The protest march started from Moorusavir Math premises under the Assam Rakhisi Vedike’s banner, in which members of various organisations including a few pro-Hindutva organisations and people from various sections of the society took part.

On reaching Kittur Chennamma Circle, the protest became a public meeting, in which office-bearers of various organisations spoke, including Pralhad Joshi, MP.

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Joshi said the Union Government had failed to initiate action against the illegal immigrants, claiming that this inaction had been the sole reason for the violence.

Mr. Joshi said the Centre’s providing special trains for people of north-eastern States residing in Karnataka only served to increase the fear psychosis among them. “Instead of convincing them to stay back, the Centre is running special trains,” he said.
