The People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) has condemned the recent reported practice of manual scavenging at T. Narsipura and has urged the government to strictly implement the law banning the practice. In a release, the PUCL State secretary V. Lakshminarayan said the incident was reported in Alagudu panchayat limits and called for its supersession by the government. As a permanent measure to eliminate the scourge of manual scavenging, the PUCL said steps should be taken to clean all manholes mechanically, clean the drainage system, link all manholes and ensure that waste is led to treatment plants through an effective drainage system. — Special Correspondent
