H.S. Ballal, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University, launched the Manipal Arogya Card 2013 here on Saturday.

Speaking after handing over the first card to a beneficiary, Mr. Ballal said that the scheme of Manipal University was part of its social initiative to provide quality healthcare at affordable price. The card-holder will be entitled for concessions in charges for inpatient and outpatient treatment at various hospitals under the network of the Manipal Health Enterprises in the coastal region. The enrolment which opened on Saturday will close on June 30, he said. The card provides discounts on treatment availed on pre-existing diseases and congenital anomalies. There is no age limit to avail benefits of the card priced at Rs. 250 for an individual and Rs. 500 for a family. Family includes the card-holder, the spouse, and children aged below 21. An add-on card is available for the parents of primary members at Rs. 100 each. A 10 per cent discount on membership fee is offered for renewal of cards. A helpline at Manipal on 0820-2571343 or 9980854700 and at Mangalore on 0824-2444590 or 9972388991 have been set-up to provide more information about the scheme, Dr. Ballal said.
