Athletes from the city have bagged 22 medals at the State-level Roller Skating Championships held in Belgaum recently.
According to Mangalore Roller Skating Club’s Secretary and skating coach, Mahesh Kumar, more than 450 skaters took part in the event organised by Karnataka State Roller Skating Association from November 30 to December 3. The best performance came from Seeliya Simmith of Lourdes Central School who bagged one gold medal and two silver medals and the individual championship. Aishwarya Mathiv of Presidency School brought home a gold, a silver and a bronze medal. The other gold hunters were Shamil Arshad of Canara High School, Dongerkerry and Kushi Rani of St. Agnes High School who got one yellow medal each.
The other medalists were: Onkar Yogaraj of Mount Carmel High School (two silver and one bronze); Rishab Manjeshwar of St. Theresa High School Priyanshu M.K. of Canara high School Dongerkerry and Avani S. Kumar of St. Theresa High School (all one silver, one bronze); Ashel D’Silva of Cambridge High School, Moksha Survarna of BGS High School, Kavoor and Ashwin D’Silva of Cambridge High School (one silver each); and Akint Koppal of Loudes Central School (two bronze).
Elston J. Pinto, a class 8 student of St. Aloysius High School, Kodialbail, was part of the Karnataka team at the School National Basketball Championships held in Warnanagar in Maharashtra from December 2 to 5. Pinto, a defender for his team, was the lone Mangalorean in the side dominated by boys from Tumkur. Karnataka won two matches and crashed out in pre-quarterfinal.
Gladwin Pamela Fernandes of the city won four gold medals in the 4th Asia Intercontinental WUKF Karate Championship held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Delhi. Saloni, of Amrita Vidyalam here, won two gold and one bronze in the event organised by All India Budokan Karate Federation from November 21 to 25. Bhoomika H. Kumar, a city student, won two silver and one bronze in the event.
