MANGALORE: The second additional district and sessions court judge D.S. Shinde, who is also the designated special judge to hear cases pertaining to atrocities on people from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, on Thursday sentenced a person accused of raping a teenager to seven-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 25,000.
Sheikh Unni, a resident of Pudubettu village in Belthangady taluk, was accused of raping a 19-year-old at her residence in the same village on December 20, 2005.
The Belthangady police had registered a case of rape and a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on a complaint from the victim.
