A 36-year-old man was sent in judicial custody after a 21-year-old Malaysian student accused him of sexually harassing her during a flight from Bangalore to Mangalore on Tuesday.
According to the Bajpe police, the woman, who is a final year dental sciences student, complained of “undue advances” from Ankit Agarwal Kumar during the 7-a.m. JetKonnect flight.
Upon landing here around 8 a.m., she informed the airport security staff who then called the Bajpe police.
Mr. Kumar, who had taken a cab by then, was asked to return, and after being questioned, was arrested.
Mr. Kumar is a sales manager in Manipal in the neighbouring Udupi district, the police said.
The police have booked him under Section 354 (1) (Physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtones) of the Indian Penal Code.
Denying that he harassed the girl, Mr. Kumar reportedly told the police that his head fell on the co-passenger as he dozed off during the flight.
Mr. Kumar was taken for medical examination and then produced before a local magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody, the police said.
