Police follow clues given by nine-year-old

MANGALORE: The clues given by a nine-year-old rape victim helped the Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) police nab the accused.

A press release here stated that the girl, a ragpicker, was on her way to her house in Mangalore taluk on Sunday. Nagaraj (40), who came on a two-wheeler, reportedly offered to pay her Rs. 100 if she did some odd jobs in his house.

Case registered

The accused then took her to a desolate place at Bondanthila near Neerumarga, gagged her and committed the crime, according to the police. The Mangalore Rural police registered a case under Sections 376, 506 of Indian Penal Code as well as 3(11) of the Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 on a complaint from the mother of the victim.

Vehicle traced

The girl told the police that her assailant had come on a Honda Activa and that it had a small picture on the front. Based on this information, the police traced the two-wheeler at Padil Junction near Alape village and nabbed the accused. Nagaraj, hailing from Mudigere in Chikmagalur district, is residing at Bondel area of the city and is a mason.
