Udupi: The Udupi police have traced the body of a person missing for the last nine months at Chitpady here, and arrested a person in this connection.

A press release issued by the Police Department here on Tuesday said that the police had received a complaint on May 21, 2006 by Gopi that his father P.P. Jagannathan, a goldsmith from Salem in Tamil Nadu, had gone missing since May 20, 2006.

He used to do business with the local jewellery shops. After investigation for the last nine months, the police arrested Ganesh Baktha, a local jeweller, on Monday.

Ganesh reportedly confessed to killing Jagannathan by giving him cool drinks mixed with cyanide, the police said.

He also showed the place where he had buried the body. The body was exhumed on Tuesday in the presence of revenue officials and was sent for forensic examination, the release said. Efforts were on to arrest Vasanth Baktha, brother of Ganesh, who had reportedly helped Ganesh in executing the murder, the release added.
