BANGALORE: An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man in Papareddypalya in Jnana Bharati police station limits on Saturday.

According to the police, Sayeed, the accused, runs a shop near the Ring Road, where duplicate keys are made.

On Saturday, he saw a girl, daughter of a labourer, going to answer nature's call in an open area. He followed the girl and allegedly raped her.

The girl's mother who became anxious over the delay in the return of the child went in search of her and saw the accused emerge out of a bush, the police said. The girl narrated the incident to her mother who lodged a complaint with the police.

Guard assaulted

Four members of a gang who came to burgle the house of a retired government servant ran away after assaulting the security guard in HIG Colony in Sanjayanagar police station limits on Friday. According to the police, Chinnappa, the owner of the house, had left for Mangalore two days ago. Around 1.30 a.m. Ganesh Bahadur, the guard, heard some noise in the backyard of the house. When he went there, the burglars attacked him with clubs. One of the attackers also stabbed him. Bahadur has been admitted to K.C. General Hospital. The police registered a complaint.

Chains snatched

Two motorcycle-borne men relieved Rama Bai (55) of her gold chain worth Rs. 10,000 in Subramanyanagar police station limits on Friday. The incident occurred in Vasantapura while she was returning home after a walk late in the evening.

In another incident, two persons threatened Venu Madhavan, a college student, and relieved him of a gold chain, gold ring and a mobile phone, near Malleswaram 14th Cross on Friday night. The Malleswaram police have registered a case.
