S.S. Mallikarjun, former Minister and son of Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA, filed his papers as the Congress candidate from Davangere North on Wednesday.

Mr. Mallikarjun came in a procession from his residence to the city corporation office to file his nomination papers on Wednesday.

Earlier, he visited the Durgambika temple here and offered puja.

Mr. Shivashankarappa filed another set of nomination papers as did Minister for Horticulture S.A. Ravindranath.B. Lokesh, grandson of the former Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa, was BJP candidate from Davangere South submitted also filed his nomination papers. He is a prominent Veerashaiva Panchamasali Samaj leader.

Muslim leader Syed Saifullah also filed his papers. After the Congress denied him the ticket, Mr. Saifullah joined the Janata Dal (S) on Tuesday and got the party ticket.

Koolenahalli Sathish, working president of the JD(S), has joined the Karnataka Janata Paksha.

He was given the KJP ticket from Davangere South, while the party’s district convener, B.S. Jagadish, was summoned to Shimoga on Tuesday night and given the ticket from Davangere North. Both leaders filed their nominations on Wednesday.

Over 80 nomination papers were filed in Davangere on Wednesday.
