Mahashivaratri observed with fervour in Bidar, Gulbarga

Mahashivaratri was observed with fervour across the district on Monday. Devotees visited temples in the morning, fasted till evening and participated in mass prayers.Hundreds of people gathered in the Sharana Udyan grounds to offer Ishta Linga Pooja and listened to speches by Akka Annapurna.

She urged the devotees to understand the spirit of sacrifice and penance that Shivaratri signifies.

Rashtriya Basava Dal organised mass prayers at Basava Mantap.

Basava Prabhu Swami and Mathe Nishchalamba spoke about the significance of Shivaratri.

Lingayat samaj president Kushal Patil Khajapur, Shivaraj Patil Atiwal, Vidyavati Patil and Gangashetty Patil, were present.

Temples

Gulbarga Special Correspondent writes: Mahashivaratri was celebrated in Gulbarga district, with almost all temples decorated to mark the festival that signals the onset of summer. People queued up outside temples here from morning to pay their obeisance to the deity.
