The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has underscored the need to create awareness among youths on the teachings of social reformer Basavanna.
“Basavanna strived to create an egalitarian society by eradicating the socio-economic inequalities. Youths should be motivated to adopt liberal values advocated by Basavanna and other Vachanakaras in their personal lives,” he said after inaugurating the district unit of Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha at Kuvempu Rangamandir in the city on Sunday.
It was the responsibility of the Government to design schemes for the personality development of the youths. Access to higher education should be provided for the youths to realise the comprehensive development of the nation, he said.
Addressing the gathering, pontiff of Taralabalu Math Shivamurthy Shivacharya Swamiji called upon the people to overcome narrow-mindedness and to develop patriotism.
The newly elected National president of Mahasabha and Davangere MLA, Shamanur Shivashankarappa, said that a coaching centre to provide training for youths interested to take civil services exam will be established by the Mahasabha in Bangalore soon.
State unit president of Mahasabha N. Thippanna said a hostel will be constructed by the Mahasabha for the students from low-income groups in Bangalore.
