The Mandya Zilla Raitha Hitharakshana Samiti president and former MP G. Made Gowda has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar over the Cauvery waters issue.

Addressing a gathering near Sir M. Visvesvaraya statue off the Bangalore–Mysore highway here, he said that Mr. Shettar had broken the promises he made, and the samiti would lay siege to the Chief Minister’s residence in Bangalore.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gowda, who was “terribly upset” over a few developments during the Cauvery agitation, has appealed to farmers to stage peaceful protests.

“I am terribly upset over a few developments. We are staging protests to safeguard the interests of farmers. No one should involve himself in unwanted activities.”

The samiti needed everyone’s support. No one should be prevented from participating in protests, Mr. Gowda added.

It may be recalled that there were protests against Congress leader Siddaramaiah and the Janata Dal (S) leader M.C. Nanaiah when they came to Mandya to express solidarity with the agitating farmers.
