A teenager, who the police said was stalking a classmate, was allegedly beaten to death by her brothers and a cousin near the Shiva Temple in Murugeshpalya here in the early hours of Thursday.

Passers-by, who saw M. Deepak (18), a resident of Sri Ramanagar slum near Murugeshpalya, lying in a pool of blood, called the police. The police arrested the three suspects, whom Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East Division) P.S. Harsha named as Selvam (28), his brother Bangari alias Manjunath (25) and their cousin Govinda.

The murder occurred at 1.30 a.m. and Deepak's father Mahesh Kondaiah filed a murder complaint against the trio at 4.30 a.m. at the Airport Police Station.

DCP Harsha said Deepak was obsessed with the classmate and had been following her around for quite some time.

“He fell on the ground when they slapped him. They then battered his head against a wall,” said another officer familiar with the investigation, adding that the trio fled after the attack.

However, some passers-by saw the injured boy and called the police. Deepak was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.
