The Bangalore City Lorry Transporting Agents' Association on Thursday urged the State Government to immediately direct the departments concerned to start construction of truck terminals at Nelamangala, Hosur Road, Mysore Road and Old Madras Road.
Association secretary K. Sreenivasa Rao Sunder told presspersons here that over 20,000 goods vehicles pass through Bangalore every day. However, there was no proper truck terminal for these vehicles to unload and load goods, to facilitate rest for the crew and many other things. Such terminals would help reduce vehicle congestion, air pollution and accidents in the city.
He said the diesel prices in Karnataka were more than those in neighbouring States and hence Karnataka was losing revenue.
He appealed to the Government to reduce taxes on diesel.
The association also demanded a driver training centre/school and convening a meeting involving truck owners, police and RTO officials to reduce the problems being faced by the truck industry.
