Motorists can no longer slip away after violating traffic rules in Hubli-Dharwad. For, the Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissionerate has installed nine closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at select junctions in the twin cities with the aim of bringing in traffic discipline and penalising offenders.

The CCTV cameras will become functional on Sunday.

In all, six CCTV cameras have been installed in Hubli and three in Dharwad.

The cameras have been installed at Sarvodaya Circle, Hosur Circle, Indi Pump Circle, Brindavan Circle, Bankapur Chowk and K.C. Circle in Hubli and at Court Circle, Jubilee Circle and Toll Naka in Dharwad. Sources in the Police Department said that a traffic management centre had been set up at the Hubli Suburban Police Station complex to monitor round the clock images retrieved from the cameras and take note of violations. The violation is immediately informed to the traffic police in that area who, in turn, will penalise the offender.

The cameras would also help him regulating traffic, they said.
