Lokayukta officials trapped M.R. Hiremath, Deputy Commissioner (Land Acquisition) of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) while he was allegedly accepting a bribe to denotify a piece of land.

Mr. Hiremath was booked for accepting Rs. 5 lakh at a coffee shop in Malleswaram. Lokayukta officials also caught Ramesh, a tout, receiving the bribe amount on Mr. Hiremath’s behalf.

The trap was laid following a complaint by Nagesh, who had applied to the BDA to get his land denotified. The land was acquired by the BDA for the formation of Arkavathy Layout.

Nagesh, who filed a case with the Supreme Court against the land acquisition, got an order in his favour, following which he approached the BDA to denotify the property.

Mr. Hiremath allegedly wanted a Rs. 20-lakh bribe, with Rs. 5 lakh as an advance. Mr. Nagesh fixed the date and time and then alerted the Lokayukta officials who raided the place.

The tout was caught red-handed accepting the money. Based on his confession, the police picked up Mr. Hiremath and booked him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
