The Lok Satta Party condemned the decision of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Kagodu Thimmappa to refer to the privilege committee a breach of privilege motion against V. Balasubramanian, chairperson of the Task Force for Recovery of Public Lands. The party also condemned the use of the Floor for individual causes by the legislators. If there is a dispute, it must be settled in court and not in the legislature, the party said.

In a release, party secretary C.N. Deepak said Mr. Balasubramanian is an upright officer known for his integrity and honesty.

“It is a well-known fact that the former Speaker Ramesh Kumar has obtained a stay order in the case of encroachment of forest land against him. However, nowhere has the High Court given a clean chit to him as claimed. This is misleading the Floor and the people of the State,” he said.

Party spokesperson Anand Yadwad said: “It is highly regrettable that such a senior legislature, who had occupied the Speaker’s chair, has used such language, that too on the floor of the Assembly. The silence of other MLAs on the issue raises doubts about their role in illegalities,” he added.
