HASSAN: Deputy Commissioner for Excise Hyder Ali Khan on Monday supervised an excise raid jointly with Hassan rural police personnel on a farm in Somanalli village in Hassan taluk and seized liquor worth Rs. 10 lakh. An investigation is on into its intended use.
Mr. Khan said in a press release that the liquor had been stored in a farm owned by Annaiah. When officials visited the farm, they found 172 cardboard boxes in two rows being loaded into two vans. There were also two motorcycles at the place. On seeing the officials, the accused fled the scene. After a chase, they arrested driver M. Bharat Kumar, a resident of Darbe of Kemmanje Puttur taluk in Dakshin Kannada district. Mr. Khan said the cardboard boxes contained 48 bottles of whisky each. No tax had been paid on the liquor, he added.
