The Bharatiya Janata Party has termed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) decision to limit the number of SMS sent out by a person a day as “ridiculous” and that it would amount to gross infringement of an individual's fundamental rights.

In a release, BJP State media in-charge S. Prakash took serious exception to the proposal that will allow only 100 SMS for pre-paid and 300 for post-paid users a day.

“Freedom of speech and protest has already been crushed under the UPA regime. Now it is unfortunate that freedom of expression, even through SMS, is being curtailed,” he said.

He demanded immediate withdrawal of the proposal and sought the Union Government's intervention.
