Karwar: Teachers and lecturers from unaided educational institutions of Karwar taluk have written letters to the Chief Minister and the Education Minister in blood. They are on a relay hunger strike for the last eight days in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here.

Anita Savant, lecturer from a nursing college, helped the teachers write letters in blood by drawing blood using syringes.

The striking teachers warned that they would stage a dharna in front of the Chief Minister and the Education Minister if their demands were not met.

They alleged that though they were on hunger strike for the last one week, no public representative had visited them to hear their grievances. They said that writing letters in blood was the first step in their plan to intensify the agitation in the coming days.
