The Dr. Vijayalakshmi Basavaraj Charitable Society has organised a lecture on ‘Reaching the unreached' on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Seminar Hall, Academic Block, AIISH main campus.

The lecture has been organised in memory of Vijayalakshmi Basavaraj, former director, All-India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore.

The objectives of the society include ensuring the welfare of children and elders with special needs.

“There seems to be a dearth of schemes and programmes to meet the demands of those in need. This holds true in the context of the lives of persons with special needs. Even when there are special schemes and programmes, a common observation is that most of them are not being utilised to their full potential due to lack of awareness and problems of accessibility,” the society said in a press release here.

The society added: “We are making efforts to reach out to the affected population; be it in the area of disability rehabilitation or social rehabilitation.”

The press release said that Vijayalakshmi Basavaraj was concerned with this issue and worked towards addressing it in the field of speech and hearing.
