`Never compromise on professional standards in legal field'
DHARWAD: Karnataka State Bar Council vice-chairman Mohan Limbikai has called upon the students of law not to compromise on professional standards.
Mr. Limbikai was speaking at the valedictory function of the activities of Students' Association and Gymkhana at the University College of Law, Dharwad, here on Thursday.
Mr. Limbikai stressed on the need for them to involve themselves completely if they were to excel in the legal field.
For a professional, every case was a challenge. Whether he liked it or not, an advocate had to study throughout his career in order to excel, he said.
Elaborating on the skills a legal professional should develop, he said a legal professional should first know what should not be spoken in the court.
He asked them not to be discouraged by the initial failures in the profession.
Mr. Limbikai stressed on the need to listen to the client, making notes and reproducing facts to the client so that he felt wanted.
The exercise would convince the client that the advocate had understood his case, he said.
K.R. Aithal, Dean, Faculty of Law, Karnatak University, presided over the function.
C.S. Patil, principal of the college, welcomed the gathering.
Mruthyunjaya Hallikeri, gymkhana secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
