Corrective surgery will be performed for free at a later date
A large number of people, along with their children with cleft lip and palate, had arrived at the Lions Seva Sadan here on Sunday for a free screening camp, which would be followed by a corrective surgery, later on.
The camp was inaugurated by G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA, and J. Shantha MP. Speaking on the occation, both Mr. Reddy and Ms. Shantha lauded the initiative taken by the Lions Club in organising the programme. “It will bring smiles on the faces of many poor people,” Mr. Reddy said.
Surgery in Belgaum
Experts from the KLES Hospital and the Medical Research Centre in Belgaum will be examining the children suffering from cleft lip and palate and give a date for performing the corrective surgery at the KLES Hospital in Belgaum.
The Lion Club will bear the entire cost of corrective surgery, ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 1 lakh, depending on the condition of the case, along with to and fro fare for the child and an attendant, their accommodation and food, during their stay at Belgaum, Kailash Jain, president of the club, said.
A large number of people from the six districts of Hyderabad Karnataka region and also neighbouring districts of Andhra Pradesh had registered their names to take advantage of the camp, he said.
