BANGALORE: A resident of Gayatrinagar in Srirampuram here on Thursday moved the Karnataka High Court against the decision of the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to acquire his land (and building) for taking up work on Bangalore Metro Rail project.

The petitioner, Shivaramaiah C., said he had purchased the corner site on Mahakavi Kuvempu Road in Gayatrinagar in 1980.

He said he had constructed a ground plus two floor floor structure. He said the KIADB had issued a notification for acquiring his property.

He termed the notification as illegal and arbitrary.

Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh adjourned further hearing on the case.

Challenged

Four residents of Bollur village adjoining the Nisargadhama resort in Kodagu district have challenged the proposed acquisition of their land by the Forest Department for widening of the road to the resort.

In their petitions, K. Bollamma Machaiah and others of Bollur village in Kushalanagar hobli of Somwarpet taluk said the department had dropped plans to acquire lands belonging to others after the intervention of the then Forest Minister.

It had, however, decided to acquire 59 cents of their lands without giving notice or conducting an enquiry. They urged the court to stay the Forest Department action.

Mr. Justice Ramesh adjourned further hearing on the case.
