It is designed for corporates who employ or wish to hire physically challenged persons

Bangalore: Anil Kumble, former captain of the Indian Test cricket team, on Friday released the CII Karnataka Disability Module for corporates who employed or wish to hire physically challenged persons.

“The cause of the physically challenged is close to my heart and I am already involved in working for them through the Chennai-based Shakti Foundation. More than anything else, the disabled need access to public buildings. Even the Vidhana Soudha lacks ramps for wheelchairs,” Mr. Kumble said. The handbook available in print and on DVD, includes sections on persons with disabilities as untapped human resource pool; equal opportunity policy and disability management; sourcing people with disability; and a sample equal opportunity policy.

Addressing CII members on “Making Karnataka a preferred destination for investment and business”, Principle Secretary, Commerce and Industries, Subir Harisingh, said Indian industry was capable of turning threats into opportunities. While Karnataka was still a preferred investment destination, other States were fast catching up, he added.
