Bangalore: The State Government is learnt to have accepted the proposal of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to increase the bus fare by around 5 per cent with immediate affect.
However, the Government is not yet decided about increasing the fares of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses, said to be due to forthcoming elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, the sources said. According to the sources, the fare of KSRTC will go up by 4.76 per cent. Similarly the fares of North-East KRTC and North-West KRTC buses will be increased by 4.74 per cent and 4.93 per cent respectively. When contacted early on Thursday, the KSRTC staff at the Kempe Gowda Bus-Stand said that they had not received any orders to collect higher fare from the passengers. “We are awaiting the instructions,” said a member of the staff.
