Congress leaders on Sunday urged External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna to take steps to fill the posts of presidents of the Bangalore City and Bangalore Urban district units.
They were speaking at the meeting of the Bangalore division of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. Mr. Krishna chaired the meeting.
The former Railway Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief advised senior leaders to set right their differences and work for the party's success in the next elections, saying the people were desperate to remove the Bharatiya Janata Party from power.
He suggested that Mr. Krishna undertake a tour of the State to achieve this goal. N.A. Haris, MLA, echoed his feelings.
The next meeting of the division will be held on February 25 at the Palace Grounds. Mr. Krishna told presspersons that the Congress was ready to face elections any time.
Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa chaired the meeting of the Mysore Division. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Motamma, N. Manjunath and the former Minister Jayaprakash Hegde were present.
Mr. Siddaramaiah suggested that Mr. Muniyappa undertake a tour of Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts to know the pulse of the party workers. He suggested that the party convention of the division be held at Mangalore to which Mr. Muniyappa responded that he would decide about it after consulting other leaders.
Earlier, Mr. Muniyappa was confronted by the party workers from Mysore led by Prakash, who alleged that BJP workers were being accommodated in the Mysore unit.
