The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash has said that the longing to associate oneself with the ruling party, conspiring for political position and switching political loyalties overnight for personal benefits have replaced commitment to political and social values and public service.

He was speaking at a function organised to celebrate the 89t {+h} birthday of the former Minister V. S. Krishna Iyer by the V. S. Krishna Iyer Abhimani Balaga here on Thursday.

Problems of parties

All major political parties had been facing problems such as poor discipline and lack of commitment to their political philosophy, and the want of collective zeal for development works.

Barring the governments headed by S. Nijalingappa, D. Devaraj Urs and Ramakrishna Hegde none could achieve much on the development front in the State, he said.

In both public and personal life, Mr. Iyer was a role model, Mr. Prakash said.

The former MLA, P.S. Prakash, welcomed the gathering. The former Ministers M. Chandrashekhar and R. Krishnappa, the former Chairman of Kannada Development Authority G. Narayana and film-maker T.N. Seetharam spoke on the life and achievements of Mr. Iyer.

Mr. Iyer and his wife were felicitated on the occasion. The former Minister P.G.R. Sindhia presided over the event.
