Konkani group fetes Albuquerque

The Global Konkani Music Lifetime Award of Mandd Sobhann, a Konkani cultural organisation, was awarded to Walter Albuquerque for his contribution to Konkani music at the 5{+t}{+h}Global Konkani Music Awards held in the city on Sunday. Sunday happened to be Mr. Albuquerque’s 90{+t}{+h}birthday.

Awards in various categories for the year 2012 were also announced at the event.

Cecille Rodrigues (first runner-up in DID Supermom) from Goa was awarded ‘Dancing Queen of Konkanis’.

The award for best singer (female) was given to Anita D’Souza, Mangalore. The best singer (male) was given to Lawry Travasso, Goa. The best composer award was given to Sidhanath Buyao from Goa. The best lyricist award was given to Wilson Kateel of Mangalore, the best music arranger award to Roshan D’Souza, Mangalore and the best album award to Ajith Peter D’Souza, UAE, for ‘Tujye Vengent’.

Several groups of young people from ‘Nach Sobhann’ performed and Mumbai-based Nephie Rod sang Konkani songs.
