Jagotik Konkani Songhotton (JKS), in association with Catholic Konkani Rakann Sanchalan (Chikmagalur-Hassan), is organising a national convention on ‘Konkani in liturgy’ on Sunday in Chikmagalur, said a press release. The convention would highlight the demand for Catholics’ right to pray in the vernacular. The release said while the Catholic Church had, at the second Vatican Council, declared that every Catholic has a right to pray in the vernacular, Konkani Catholics have been denied the right in many dioceses in India despite their sizeable presence. Around 500 delegates from Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala will participate in the convention.
