Members of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation have asked the Commissioner to close all KMC offices if funds were not available for their ward development as assured by the administration and put pressure on the government for a grant of Rs. 10 crore. At a general body meeting on Thursday, the councillors ended the meeting with a protest and demanded that if funds were not available as octroi had been abolished and local merchants opposed local tax in lieu of octroi, the State government should pay a special grant of Rs. 10 crore so that ward development fund could be provided to corporators.

Merchants' resistance to the levy of local tax by the civic body continued with no response to the KMC's drive and as merchants had gone to court against the civic body and had threatened to move out of the city area to avoid the local tax.
