Madikeri: A Kodava Desha Sabhe to discuss issues relating to the social, economic, political, linguistic and cultural aspects of the Kodava community will be held at Ponnampet on October 4.
Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, president of the Akhila Kodava Samaja Matanda C. Monnappa said the convention would also aim to bring all members of the community under one roof, enhance camaraderie and generate awareness among the community, especially the youth, on the need to foster Kodava culture.
Mr. Monnappa said that intellectuals, social and community leaders, businessmen, political leaders and academics would participate in the convention.
A procession would be organised from Ponnampet Junior College Circle to the Kodava Samaja premises at 9 a.m. prior to the convention. Such conventions were held at Makkandur in Madikeri taluk in 2002 and at Srimangala in Virajpet taluk in 2004.
Mr. Monnappa said that the Akhila Kodava Samaja had organised annual general body meetings in the traditional areas inhabited by the Kodavas in the past.
Distinguished scholars such as Bacharaniyanda P. Appanna, Kalimada Shivappa and Titamada Pushpa Ramesh would present lectures on various topics concerning Kodavas.
Guests at the function would include M.C. Nanaiah, MLC and K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University.
Cultural programmes would be presented by the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, the Mysore Kodava Samaja, Appacha Kavi Vidyalaya, Ponnampet, and the Kolatt (folk dance) team from Begur.
