Madikeri: Rumours that a person from Kushalnagar in Somwarpet taluk was arrested on Sunday night for suspected links with terrorists were refuted by the Kodagu police on Monday. No such incident had come to their notice, they said.

A section of the local media reported that a man had been arrested in Kushalnagar by a police team from Mangalore and taken to Mangalore for investigation relating to the recent bomb blasts.

According to a reliable source, the arrested person is Abbas, who sells fish in Kushalnagar. He is a resident of Dandinapete in Kushalnagar town.

The police found his cellphone number on the cellphones of two suspected terrorists arrested in Koppa recently, the source disclosed. The man is also stated to be a worker of Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD).

“Officially we have no knowledge,” Inspector-General of Police (Southern Range), Jeevan Kumar Gaonkar, said when contacted on the telephone.

Mr. Gaonkar was here to inspect the Sunticoppa police station. Police could always verify things in a routine manner, but no one could be branded as a terrorist all of a sudden, he said.

Kodagu Superintendent of Police T.R. Suresh, also said that no one had contacted him on the issue.
