C. Ganesh Pai, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, has been awarded a research grant of Rs. 52 lakh for the project titled “Differences in T Lymphocytes Apoptosis in the Granulomatous Inflammation in Intestinal Tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease-implications to diagnosis and pathogenesis”.
According to a release issued by the Kasturba Hospital here on Tuesday, the grant was funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
This type of funding was available for established research leaders to pursue ground-breaking, high-intensity projects that open new directions and advancements in their respective research fields.
K. Satyamoorthy, Director of Manipal Life Sciences Centre, and Laxmi Rao, Professor in the Department of Pathology, are co-investigators on the project.
The project runs for three years and aims at studying the differences between intestinal tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease.
The research has the objective of coming out with a better diagnostic tool for identification of intestinal tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease, according to the release.
