Madikeri: An eight-foot king cobra, said to be two years old, was caught at Korangala village near Bhagamandala in Kodagu on Friday by a team of snake lovers associated with herpetologist ‘Snake’ Satish.

People of the village alerted Mr. Satish on Thursday, but he could not track the snake even after a wait for over two hours.

The snake was spotted again on Friday morning, following which Mr. Satish sent his team comprising Kunjangada Bose, Rafeeq and Kollimada Raju to the spot.

The snake, which went inside a hole, was caught by the team members, Mr. Rafeeq said.

He said the people of the village had been calling up Mr. Satish for the past few days as they were afraid to go to their paddy fields because of the king cobra.

The snake was being treated by Mr. Satish at Gonicoppa in Virajpet taluk for a small wound.

It would be released into the Makutta forests near Virajpet after a couple of days, he said.
