Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the State government will extend loans to the Karnataka Housing Board to develop new residential layouts.

He was speaking at a function to allot residential sites and houses at the KHB 2nd stage project and handover of eight residential layouts developed by the KHB to the municipal corporation here on Saturday.

Mr. Shettar said the KHB would construct more houses in the coming days to check the proliferation of slums.

Referring to the land acquisition for developing residential layouts, he asked the Housing Minister to give 60x40 ft sites to farmers whose lands had been acquired for the purpose instead of 30x40 ft sites.

Housing Minister V. Somanna asked the municipal corporation to make use of the Rs. 2 crore given to it for providing basic amenities in residential layouts. Pralhad Joshi, MP, asked officials to ensure quality while taking up the work on the road from Navanagar to Gamanagatti. Chandrakanth Bellad, MLA; Pandurang Patil, Hubli-Dharwad Mayor; Bharati Patil, Deputy Mayor; and S.N. Jayaram, Commissioner, KHB, were present.
