Plea to install Kempegowda statue in front of Vidhana Soudha
Bangalore: The 497th birth anniversary of the founder of Bangalore, Kempegowda, was celebrated here on Sunday.
The celebrations, organised by the Bangalore Kempegowda Central Committee at the Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall, witnessed a colourful start with a folk performance of Pattada Kunita by a team of artistes from Mandya. The dignitaries also garlanded the statue of Kempegowda.
A statue of Kempegowda has to be installed in front of Vidhana Soudha, and a memorial along with a museum has to be constructed to preserve Kempegowda’s legacy, B.L. Lakkegowda, president of the committee, said.
He said: “I have requested the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the Government to declare Kempegowda’s birthday as a State festival on the lines of the Dasara festival.”
He also hoped that the Government will agree to rename the international airport afterKempegowda.
SSLC and PUC toppers were felicitated by MLA Krishna Byregowda. Among those present were MLA B.Z. Zameer Ahmad Khan, freedom fighter H.S. Doraiswamy and actor B. Sarojadevi.
