Three police officials, attached to the Cubbon Park traffic station, suffered scratch injuries when a Kazakhstan national and her friend allegedly attacked them after they were caught for alleged drunken driving near the CTO Circle here at 1 a.m. on Thursday.
The Cubbon Park traffic police said the duo, Deanna Constantine (24) of Kazakhstan and her friend Vikram (25) from Kerala, had attacked them on an earlier occasion.
While Vikram lives in an apartment on Sankey Road, details about the woman are yet to be ascertained.
The first time
According to police records, the duo had allegedly roughed up police personnel on duty near Queens Circle on February 13 and fled the scene, leaving their scooter at the spot.
The Cubbon Park traffic police were on a special drive against drunken driving on Wednesday night and stopped Vikram near the CTO Circle in the early hours of Thursday, and asked him to produce the vehicle documents.
However, Deanna, riding pillion, allegedly misbehaved with the police personnel and also tried to distract them by creating a scene.
The police said she hit Constables Ali and Vishwanath and Sub-Inspector of Police Vishnuvardhan Pundith.
All on camera
“We videotaped the entire episode and seized the two-wheeler,” said M.A. Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security).
The couple reportedly told the police they were returning from a party.
A police official said a test conducted on Vikram proved that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Eyewitnesses said Deanna obstructed the Sub-Inspector by attempting to hug and kiss him.
Later, Sub-Inspector Rama Murthy, attached to the Sampangirama Nagar station, who was on night rounds, intervened and brought the situation under control.
The police have registered a case of drunken driving against Vikram.
