UNRELENTING:Farmers from the Karur industrial area staging a protest in Davangere on Friday.

Farmers from the Karur industrial area on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the newly constructed Deputy Commissioner’s office complex seeking alternative sites as compensation for land and non-alienated sites acquired a few years ago for setting up a textile park.

A few years ago, the district administration acquired 143 acres of land, including some non-alienated sites, from farmers for setting up a textile park.

The land-losers have been demanding that since the proposed textile park project has been dropped, the district administration should return the acquired agricultural land and non-alienated sites to the owners.

Led by their leader Tejasvi Patel, the farmers said that they would stage a demonstration on Saturday also, when Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar would be arriving to inaugurate the newly constructed Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, and submit a memorandum.
