Athletes of Karaumbiah’s Academy of Learning and Sports (KALS), promoted by former international sportsperson Ashwini Nachappa, at Gonicoppa in Kodagu district, have won a lion’s share of medals to help Karnataka emerge overall champions at the National ICSE Athletic Meet held at Thrissur in Kerala recently.

Of the total 20 gold medals bagged by Karnataka, KALS athletes accounted for as many as 16, according to a press release from the principal of KALS, Gowramma Nanjappa, here on Wednesday.

Manjunath, from KALS, was adjudged the best athlete in the senior category while Dimpu Cariappa won the junior champion’s trophy in the meet. Managing Trustee Ms. Nachappa and Chairman of KALS Datha Karaumbiah have lauded the outstanding performance of the team. The athletes were coached by Ravi Shankar. Ms. Gowramma said as many as five athletes from the KALS had been picked to represent the Karnataka team at the National Amateur Meet, scheduled to be held in Bangalore in December.
