The number of participating boys and girls touches 1,000 this year
SHIMOGA: The two-day Kala Pratibhotsava (cultural competitions for children) began at the Kuvempu Rang Mandir in Shimoga on Wednesday amid great enthusiasm.
While nearly 850 boys and girls participated in the last year's event, the number of participants touched 1,000 this time which holds a mirror to the increasing interest among children in the cultural competitions being held by the Department of Kannada and Culture.
The competitions being held in music, dance, fine arts are divided into two categories.
They are Bala Pratibhotsava for those in the 8 to 13 age group, and Kishore Pratibhotsava for those in the 13 to 18 age group.
President of the Karnataka Sangha Vijaya Sridhar, who formally inaugurated the Kala Pratibhotsava, underlined the need for children to participate in cultural events as it went a long way in moulding their personality.
President of the Kuvempu Ranga Mandir Advisory Committee S.N. Channabasappa presided over the function.
Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture N. Harikumar welcomed the gathering.
