HUBLI: The situation at Kadaramandalagi village of Byadgi taluk in Haveri district, which witnessed a clash between Dalits and caste Hindus on Sunday, is returning to normality.
Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar told The Hindu that two cases of atrocities against Dalits had been registered and 21 people arrested.
Meanwhile, prohibitory orders have been imposed in the village till Tuesday evening as a precautionary measure. In the group clash, eight persons were injured and a motorcycle was burnt. According to the police, the reason for the clash was secretive harvesting of cotton crop by three Dalit youths, on farmlands belonging to some other people.
The police have registered a case of theft against the three youths, who are now being treated in hospital. They would be brought in for questioning once they recuperate, Mr. Kumar said.
