93 companies are taking part in it

SHIMOGA: A two-day job mela will be organised by the Department of Employment Guidance and Training at Nehru Stadium in Shimoga from October 3.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Commissioner of Employment Guidance and Training Department S.R. Umashankar said that 93 companies would participate in the mela, and nearly 12,000 candidates were expected to take part in it.

He said that training would be given to candidates in more than 50 skills besides providing employment opportunities to the eligible among them.

He said that candidates with a pass or fail in SSLC and PUC examinations, diploma and degree holders could participate in the mela.

He said that the candidates would also get certificates after being trained in their respective fields during the mela.

Mr. Umashankar said that the objective of the mela was to provide jobs to 10 lakh people in the next five years. He said that such job fairs had been organised at nine places in the State and 1.46 lakh aspirants had participated in them. Nearly 65,000 of them had been placed in various companies.

On the preparations for the mela, he said that 125 stalls would be put up at the Nehru Stadium and space would be made available for conducting various skill-oriented tests.

He said that basic facilities such as pure drinking water, toilets and lighting would be arranged.

He said that aspirants willing to participate in the mela could also make registrations on the spot itself.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police S. Murugan were present.
