Regional Commissioner Rajneesh Goel has directed Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal to book criminal cases against the Jewargi tahsildar and some revenue officials for creating false documents to convert government land into private farm land in Yadrami village some years ago.

Illegal cultivation

Pampanna Narasappa Kumbar had taken up illegal cultivation on 4.16 acres of government land for several years. He had filed a petition before the Akrama-Sakrama land grant committee to legalise the occupation and grant him ownership. The committee had rejected his appeal.

However, the tahsildar and other revenue department staff allegedly helped him encroach the land by illegally including his name in the records of tenancy and cultivation. They fudged records to allow him to cultivate he land in April 2008.

Later, in July 2008, Mr. Kumbar registered the land his name. Then he began converting the land into residential sites and selling them.

Criminal cases

Mr. Goel directed the Deputy Commissioner to file criminal cases against the officials under Section 192-A of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.

Steps are being taken to cancel the permission given to Mr. Kumbar for cultivation on government land.
